Page load has decreased fairly substantially as a result. Definitely more to come.

Thanks!

I decided it would be a good idea to start an official blog for Vinovas that I can use to relay updates and important information.

To kick things off, two important changes were put into place this week. First; a new procedure for managing upload overflow has been implemented. Basically, if the system determines that a user is overrunning the main page with too many submissions in a very short amount of time, dependent on other users’ interest in the pieces they are pushing away, the number shown may be reduced. For now, the reduction value is two, meaning users who are throttled in this way will only have their two latest images shown on the main page. Everywhere else, the images will display normally (including the newest art browse view). For most users, this won’t ever factor in.

Secondly, a form of probation has been implemented. I had to think for a long time about what to do about users who are belligerent to the point of degrading the community. I determined that I didn’t want to necessarily take away anyone’s ability to use Vinovas, but I also didn’t want to let the community crumble. As such, I’ve created the ability for staff (myself) to remove a user’s ability to participate in the forums and on other members’ work. Users restricted in this fashion can still comment and participate on their own art.

In addition, I’ve been working on a number of search engine optimizations to increase Vinovas’ recognition.

Thanks!
